All the techniques mentioned above are good. Press release submission is also a great technique to build back links, if you use it properly. People normally submit one press release to multiple sites which results in a lot of duplicate content as a result of which you don't get much of the Link Juice. If you want to do press release submission then do it through proper channel. There are great press release platforms that allow you to build anchor text allowed do-follow link backs.
