Question:

Does the gap from the pallet expander ever go back?

I didnt have a gab between my teeth when I first got the expander and after about 2 weeks I have one now. One of my friends said that after about a month the gap closes. Is that true? I have to have to have this expander for 6 monthes and the last thing I want is a huge space between my teeth.

Answer:

If your unsure about picking some up always go get the site manager, from the way it sounds it was way to big for someone just starting to drive a fork lift, if you pick up something that big again, only lift it a couple of inches off the ground just far enough so it wont hit the ground while moving if necessary adjust the height to clear bumps but in a slow and steady manner, and this way if the pallet starts giving away you can always get it back to the ground before the package falls and if it does fall its less likely to be damaged, if you cant see around you package have someone spot for you to make sure no one or anything else is in your path most people on the site should be more then willing to spot.
when in doubt operating anything stop think it through.... your pallet was probably inferior or not loaded properly. in a fast paced enviroment its hard to catch simple things. i found that if not sure of a pallet I'd lift up a bit up and down several times to see if pallet will hold up. accidents happen at least no one was hurt ...that would of cost more than the damaged load....
Pick-up trucks are fun to drive and are very practical. Usually in a truck, you are higher up off the ground and have a better view of things. I like to do yard sales and being in a truck gives me a slight advantage over those cars that are much lower. From a practical standpoint, I could put most anything, regardless of content or size, in my pick-up. I can't say the same about my car. There is a feeling of openness that you don't find in a typical automobile.
Perhaps you took the corner a bit too fast and didn't have the pallet centered enough on the forks. Learn more about the safety triangle. What else can anyone say?
Maybe next time you should check the pallet to make sure its strong and sound before picking it up. If it isn't, then find another and restack the merchandise. This accident doesn't sound like your fault because the pallet wasn't in good condition.
