Question:

Does the quality of a French Press matter?

Does the quality of a French Press matter a lot? Would buying a 50$ press from Williams-Sonoma be much better than the 15$ one from Canadian Tire?

Answer:

Maybe in how long it lasts but not in how good the coffee is. Personally, I recommend buying glass (not plastic) but you can get a fairly cheap one that works fine.
Not really. Most work pretty well. That said, I do recommend The stainless steel vacuum insulated ones, if for no other reason, than that they are unbreakable.
It can. Some cheaper presses have larger holes in the plunger screen. That would let more sediment through, into your cup. Glass or stainless steel is easier to clean and won't retain flavors and odors like plastic can. That said, Williams-Sononma often sells things higher prices. The first link shows the 2-press kit, but the second shows one Bed Bath Beyond that is larger (although their small ones add up to the same as W-S), and you can use a 20% off coupon BBB.
