Can blinker lights be a different color? Is it illegal to have a different color blinker light?
The basic reason is that sometimes people see the orange lights at night and trip out that the car is coming TOWARD them .. Drivers are conditioned that red lights mean either that they are looking at the rear of the car ahead or that they are about to get a 'special' gift from that officer in the rear view mirror. .
In Australia they are supposed to be yellow. Brake and tail are red. In the US, blinkers can be red. Other countries, don't know.
In most areas for on road use you are restricted to stop being red only, and only visible from the rear, and turn indicators red or amber. Any other color would lead to a ticket. They are especially tuned into red or blue or any combination being seen from the front of any but an emergency vehicle. Off road, do whatever you'd like.
red or yellow are standard. Older cars used the same light for turning signal and brake light. These were all red. newer cars with separate lights are now using yellow. What other color did you have in mind? white is definatly out. The only legal white light on the rear of the car is the back-uplight. that's why a broken tail light lens is illegal.
