Question:
Dog is Limping and I Dunno What to Do? Please help!?
My dog is a golden retriever and she‘s really big. Heavy and just big in general. Today, I went to give her food and she didn‘t come out. Turns out, whenever she tried 2 get up/ stand up, she limps. She won‘t out any pressure whatsoever on her back right foot. I know this happened overnight cuz my family member said she was fine early in the morning when he woke up. There‘s nothing in her paw and I‘ve given her arnica and tried massaging her foot. She hasn‘t gotten up since this morning and it‘s making me nervous. She doesn‘t move away or flinch when u touch her leg tho. I dunno what‘s wrong. We tried putting a towel under her belly and lifting her up with the towel so there‘s no pressure on her back leg but she can‘t decide where she wants to go. I brang in the food 2 her so she‘s eaten. I‘m trying 2 figure out how I could even get her into the car 2 take her 2 a doctor. She literally won‘t take more than 2 steps even with my help. And she‘s big so it‘s NOT easy 2 lift her up. What do I do?????
Answer:
You can get her into the car using the towel trick. Get her front in and then support her hind end. It could be something minor - but it could be potentially fatal if its a blockage in the blood supply or something. Is her affected paw cold?

The wheels are what holds the nitrifying bacteria that break down fish waste. If you remove them, make sure you add bio-balls or sponges to hold beneficial bacteria. Make sure the sponges are not treated with any soaps or cleaners. You can get plain pot scrubbers at a dollar store that make great biological filters.
You can do this but you are removing the vast majority of the biological filtration in the filter. Most of the bacteria that breakdown the ammonia reside on the biowheels and removing them will diminish the ability to breakdown ammonia. Have you tried adjusting the spray bars so that they spray on the back of the biowheels? this will cause the wheels to rotate backwards and the result is less water dripping into the tank making noise.

Call someone to help you get her in the car. We lift 100 pound dogs all the time at the vet hospital where I work. One person gets the back and the other person gets the front. Both of you face the same direction on the same side of the dog. You will walk pretty much sideways to walk with her. The vet can do an exam and get it figured out. Your dog, if she's overweight, MUST lose the weight, or you will lose your dog. The saddest thing I have to deal with at the vet hospital where I work is a dog that is put to sleep because it cannot get up anymore. Look up how much your dog should weigh and look up in the food guide how much daily food it takes to maintain that ideal weight. Then cut some out of that amount and that's what your dog should eat. Your vet can help you with it. It sounds like your dog's knee ligament may have been torn, or arthritis in the hip or something similar. As far as using the towel, if you have a second or even third person, one person uses the leash and walks like usual, while the other two use the towel, one person on each side of the dog. The dog has no idea where to go when you only use the towel, because dogs are used to being led. Good luck. You will need help. Once you get to the vet, ask them to help you get her out of the car and back in when you are leaving. they will.
