And You can make Chocolate-covered goodies with it?! Also, They are on TV, There is a commercial for them, Anyone know the brand and what they are called on tv?!Im planning on getting my mom one.HELPP, Please.

double boiler are two pots in one. you need the BOTTOM one for the hot water and the top compartment for the chocolate. you need yo melt chocolate without burning it this is the best way. really you don't need one you can just use two pots that fit into each other but since you want to give it to your mom any kitchen appliance store will have it even wlamart you don't need to buy it from tv i assure you, you will pay more than it really costs.
I have one of those electric skillets that I fill about halfway with water and leave at 200 degrees, and I put a glass bowl in the water with the chocolate, it keeps it melted. If you are wanting to make something like buckeyes, it is really hard to do it in the microwave, because it will melt but it will not stay melted. Before I got the electric skillet I used a medium sized sauce pan filled with water, and a small sauce pan to place inside with the chocolate. You could keep the temp to where the water is boiling lightly, or around a simmer. It works better than the microwave, but not as good as the skillet. If you use a pot on the stove the chocolate will burn to the pan.
You dont' have to boil one of those things! Make your own! Put a heavy glass bowl over a pot of simmering water (where the water does not touch to bowl). Add chocoalte and melt slowly. Or you cna buy a double boiler. It looks like a steamer, how it fits onto a pot below, but has no holes in it. Same idea. The first one costs less.

A double boiler is simply a double pot. The top pot fits into the bottom one. The bottom one is meant to have the simmering water and the top fits over it without touching the water. Yes, it is one very effective way of melting chocolate. It is also used for certain sauces and custards. You can, however, accomplish the same task by simply using a heat proof glass bowl or a stainless steel bowl over a pot of simmering water.
