i currently have a 2003 dodge ram 4x4, it has the 4.7l i want replace it with the 5.7l. and i was wondering if i got the engine and transmission replaced. would i need a specific type of transmission for my 4 wheel drive to work.
It would be far cheaper to trade your 4.7 truck in on a 5.7 truck. First off, the engine itself will be about $4000 used, then you would need to change the transmission (another $3000 used), engine cradle, front suspension (minimum another $3000, give or take), plus you don't get the bigger brakes or stronger axles that come with the larger V8 trucks. You could get a MUCH newer, 5.7L ram with your trade in and that extra money.
Not only Toyota,almost all cars and trucks now are made fly by wire system,for many years now.I always wonder why all those,cost upward to thousand of dollars to replace,when all can be done with a simple cable,cost about 10 dollars and almost trouble free,how many I have replaced in the last 30 years of servicing cars?I can count not all my fingers.

I don't know why guys are so obsessed with swapping engines, when it's very hard and expensive to do properly. Like the other guy says, it would ultimately be cheaper and more sensible to just buy a truck that already has a 5.7, rather than trying to buy the engine, transmission, wiring harness, computer, and all the other parts you will need to make it work.
03-07 uses a 5-45rfe transmission but a lot of other things to consider when changing that one like radiator, wiring harness,ecm,ur transmission would work but it would cost you more in labor and parts than you could buy another truck for,something to think about cost wise,a lot of things have to be moved around so that engine will work in it.
