If i get new bearings for my 88 camaro with a 305 tbi, about how much will it cost and how long could it take?
consider this. to do it right, the engine has to come out, the crank needs to be measured and linished if neccesary, the bearings ned to be ordered for the crank, the rings and pistons have to come out and will probobly need replacement, gaskets time, rooting around, like the old saying says, if you gotta ask, you cant afford it.
oh YOU NEED NEW BEARINGS.....ITS AMERICAN,BUY A NOT AMERICAN CAR.IDIOTS(AMERICANS)P.S. IM FROM CANADA
A good rebuilt motor already put together by a good company with a good warranty will cost you around $1,300 for your car.It would be worth it to get a rebuilt motor.
If the bearings are shot then, in all likelyhood, the rings and valves are at the end of their life, or nearly so, as well. I wouldn't invest the time or money required to tear the engine down without doing a complete overhaul. You have to tear it down anyway so you might as well insure that aomething else won't bite you in the rear and cause you to tear it down all over again in a few months. An old but good adage, If you're going to do something, do it right the FIRST time.
If I was doing the bearings I would do a complete overhaul. But if the crankshaft and rods are in spec., maybe a week. If you can do the work your self, and nothing goes wrong 2 days. But I would just take it out and drop it off at a auto-machine shop and have it fitted for what ever over sized bearing, rings and what ever else it needs. If you are in a hurry get a good crate motor that is already built. Being an 88 model I am sure it needs more then bearings to put the like new zoom in it.
