Question:

Engineering Dilemmas?

What are some persistent problems that remain to be solved in the field of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering? The answer that I'm looking for can be any basic answer, but I would prefer that it be a fairly technical answer from an experienced person or college student.Anything is welcome though.Thank You.

Answer:

NASA, Liftport, and others are still looking for a cable light and strong enough to enable to construction of a space elevatorCambridge University may however have made a breakthrough in that regardthey have developed a method to crosslink short carbon nanotubes in order to make a continuous fiber (not unlike the way yarn/thread is made from cotton fibers.)Their pilot plant can turn out a 18miles of fiber per day and it weighs only a gram! So this problem may be well on the way to being solved.
At 4.5- 5.5 ghz i would recommend a liquid cooling system- my rating of your specs -10-excellent you can play games at high settings a without a problem, nothing needs to be changed,i mean what do you really think that needs to be change ? again it's a good high end build, nothing more i can say except happy gaming, iguess your os will be windows 7 64 bit
I don't understand why people think they need to overclock brand new hardware? If you get this you will already have one of the best processors on the marketWhat will you gain from overclocking other than saying that you did it? Absolutely nothingYour gains will only be marginal because they still haven't optimized programming to use all the cores in the best mannerSoftware is also continuously improvingBut it's your money I think that you are stupid for trying to oc new hardware just for bragging rights.
hi vantnan, mid size cases is not my first choice especially with such a large power supply but i just read an article on sandy bridge pretty cool with a thumbs upthe asus maximus lV extreme R.3.0 good motherboard have you looked at the intel x58 classified very nice motherboardnow i recommend a corsair dominator about 1600 ram you can go up to 24gb but i would be pleased with 1600gbdid you know that corsair makes the same power supply the gold it is a 1200 watt very nice and reasonable cost i would have to recommend the corsair power supply along withj corsair ram very nice mobobut now i saved the processor for last you can save some money here intel i7 i noticed that you are buying the 2600K did you know that as long as you have the i7 that you cannot get any faster than i7 so the 2600 you can get just as much if you just bought just the i7good luck hope i was helpful to you
Just be aware, the 6990 is extremely loud and the H70 is very loud, if you don't mind that, then it's all good! You'll achieve 4.8ghz as everyone else doesA better cooler then the H70 that might let you get to 5.0ghz would be the Noctua NH-D14 or Silver Arrow, they will be about 10c cooler then the H70I might drop the board down to an Asus Z68 Pro and throw the savings into a dedicated sound card2000mhz ram is not worth the price premium (unless it's priced the same where you're buying) just grab a kit of 1600mhz ramOCZ Vertex 3 with the sandforce SF-2281 controller are having some serious issues right now, as well with the Corsair Force 3Failure rates are highI would personally go with a 120gb Intel 510Might not have the fast numbers, but you won't notice which SSD you have in there, they are so quickIt uses the marvel controller and has no known issues2TB hard drive have twice as high failure rate as 1TB driveI'd recommend grabbing 2 x 1TB drives and putting them into a Raid 1 configuration so that if your HD every dies, you can just rebuild your raid array with a new HD and still have all your filesMsg me if you need any more help at all.
