Question:

Estimate cost for custom air ride suspension?

Looking to get a older impala and eventually put air ride suspension system on it. I know hydraulics cost a $$$$ and you have to modify under the car. So my plan is just to go with and air system. What is is the estimate DIY cost for a project like this without cutting too many corners.

Answer:

As you brake, the battery does charge. Look at the gauge to the left of your tachometer. When the green part lights up that means it's charging. I wouldn't recommend going to the top of a hill multiple times to charge your battery. Under normal driving conditions, your battery will charge itself. You don't need to do anything special to charge it.
It won't be any easier or cheaper to put air ride on a 63 impala than hydraulics. Get a newer car with a factory coil sprung rear suspension and you might be able to get it done for about 1200 bucks. That is if you have any idea what you're doing. If you don't, have a pro do it. I've seen a lot of nasty wrecks caused by inexperienced kids hacking air ride under their trucks and doing it wrong.
Go to the Honda website and read about the environmental impacts of charging your battery.
Difficult to say without knowing the year. What do you mean by older? 2006? 2002? 1996? 1884? 1974? 1968? 1961? 1958? Each series would require a different kit. So sad that so many people on Yahoo Answers do not know how to do a simple search on the Internet. Instead of getting a wild guess on Yahoo Answers, why don't you do a little research on your own. Open your favorite Internet search page and search for air ride suspension kits without the quotes. You will find lots of companies make these kits. In general, you won't find these kits for front wheel drive vehicles. So if your older Impala was made after 2000 you may be out of luck. One company that I am familiar with is Ride Tech. Mostly because I have seen these kits used on Spike TV Power Block and on Stacy David's Gears program. This may be a place to start. See the link below. About $2100 for a basic Level 1 kit. About $5025 for a better level 2 kit. About $8025 for the best level 3 kit.
