Question:

Ethernet Question?

I want to run an Ethernet cable from my living room to my xbox360 in my bedroom and the easiest and most eye appealing way is to go through the atticThe questions I have are 1Is cat6 a good enough cable to go with?2Also what kind of cable type would work best?3It will be in a attic so would heat/cold make a difference?4It will have to run close to/cross some electrical wire so will that mess with the connection?5Any other ways to do this? (want to spend less than $70)6Do they make connectors so you could connect to separate cables together? Thanks!

Answer:

Wow same thing happened to usIm thinking he wants attention? Try taking him to the vet, he may be trying to tell you something is wrong.
The behavior this seems to point to is referred to as middeningIt is the same as urine marking, only much easier to deal withMy 17 year old will periodically leave a present for us in the middle of the floorHe is marking his territoryGet him checked out by the vet to make sure there is no medical issue, but it sounds like he feels a little threatened in his position by your husband, which is odd considering how long you've had himTo make sure he doesn't return to the chair, clean the area with a product like Nature's Miracle to remove all pheromones, enzymes, and other things that leave scent behindWe use Nature's Miracle on carpet and fabrics and have never had a problem with it harming the surfacesOnce dry, spray the chair with Feliway Comfort Zone spray according to the directions on the packageIt stops marking behavior wherever you spray it.
Clean the chair using the aid of a black light to see residueTry to keep the door closed to the room (if possible) when not in useSometimes cats get bored of the same litter box, maybe he'd like a new oneHave your husband get him some new toys, maybe the cat is resentful of him.but don't tell you husband this.he may take offense.men can be sensitiveGood luck!
1Cat6 is good if you are running GigabitCat 5e is usually just fine for Fast Ethernet (100 Mbps)2I'm unsure of what you mean by type since Cat 6 and Cat 5e are typesIf you are going to remain within building codes, you'll need to run Ethernet cable that has a Plenum jacketThose are more expensive but do not give off poisonous fumes if they burn3Heat and cold can make a difference, but Plenum cables are usually built to stand those kinds of changes4Yuck! Just be sure to never run the cable parallel to electrical cables - ALWAYS run the Ethernet cable across at a 90-degree angleThis prevents most of your electrical interferenceHowever, the further away you keep your Ethernet cable from any electrical cables, the cleaner the signal and the faster it will runYou can try purchasing shielded Ethernet cable in Plenum jacketing, but that will be more expensive and will require a way to ground the wire at each end5You can try wireless, although I don't know if XBox is that advanced (hahahaha!)6They do make connectors that allow you to connect RJ-45s togetherJust remember the more of those you use, the more noise you will let in and the worse your connection will beTry to use the fewest connectors that you can Good luck!
