Question:

evap system?

I have a 99 chevy tahoe i was able to get my inspection sticker last year. this year my check engine light came on and took it to auto zone to put it on the computer. It gives me an OEM Number to cross P1404-0440 which means that my EVAP is troubleshooting. I have replace my gas cap, There is no leaks,I know for sure is not my solenoid. but, can it be my EVAP canister its there a website that i can visit, where it can show me how to check it or how i should be looking for .

Answer:

A code P1404 is an EGR system code. It might help to know exactly what code is setting. A code P0440 is a general evap system trouble code. It could mean any of a number of things that are happening with the evap system.
Mr. Badwrench is correct. P1440 and P0440 are two completely unrelated codes, affecting two completely unrelated systems. It might have been appropriate to try replacing the fuel cap if you were setting a P0440, but if a P1440 is setting, the problem has nothing to do with the EVAP system (or the fuel cap). My suggestion would be to take the vehicle to a reputable GM dealer and have the problem diagnosed and repaired. Autozone is a PARTS STORE. I'm sure that they would be only too happy to sell you more PARTS. Cut your losses now and take it to someone who knows how to diagnose the problem.
