Answer:

There's a pretty good answer already that I've sourced below. I think it'll help you. Basically Heavy Metal is the genre and the subgenres are power metal, speed metal, death metal, thrash metal, etc. You'll find that most people who like heavy metal don't like all forms of it. For instance, I love thrash but some of the death metal is just a little too much for me because I like the vocal style of thrash over the low, gutteral voice style of death metal.
though I am unclear what is the difference between Death Metal and Black Metal. Melodic metal must metal style music that has more melody - more listener friendly.
i like most types of metal including those and ill just give u an example of what i think each is: heavy metal-slayer or some metallica, black metal and death metal r the same thing as far as im concerned but id say some good death metal bands r deicide, inveracity, HATE ETERNAL, immolation, NILE and, arch emeny, but melodic metal would be dethklok from the show metalocolypse on adult swim its a comedy but they r actually 1 of my favorite bands
Heavy: That's stuff like Led Zep Black Metal: Stuff like Immortal and Emperor Death Metal: Death, Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, etc. Melodic: Could mean anything.
Heavy Metal usually refers to the traditional style of Heavy Metal that was originally formed by bands such as Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. Black Metal usually has dark lyrics that consist of sorrow, hate, and anti christianity. The vocals are very raspy screams. Black Metal bands include Cradle of Filth, Bathory, Burzum, and Xashur. Death Metal usually contains lyrics from hate to rage to blood and gore. Death growls are very common in this genre. Some Death Metal bands are Death, Obituary, Kataklysm, and Dying Fetus. Melodic Death Metal though consists of different lyrics that don't always talk about blood and gore. Melody is heard throughout the songs. That is the genre I would most recommend for you to listen to. Try listening to bands like In Flames, Soilwork, and Eternal Tears of Sorrow. I think you might like these bands.
