Question:

exhaust system delima. any ideas?

ok i drive a 1987 chevy blazer k5 silverado that has a stock 350 in it. a friend of mine suggested a exhaust system called turbos that give it an intimidationg i mean business sound. which is what im looking for. my brother came up with some old turbos that he got off a friend. how can i tell if they are turbos and is there a site that i can go to,to listen to the turbos before i take it to the exhaust shop?thank you

Answer:

Because of the increased exhaust flow required for turbo chargers, the mufflers that are used have very little baffling to produce back pressure. Maxflo and others have capitalized on the idea but any muffler designed for use with turbochargers will have better flow and more noise.
I recommend that you replace all four. and in all honesty $720 is extremely high, a typical strut cartridge for you vehicle should only be around $60. It is the labor that is hurting you. consider doing it yourself
How many miles on your 1987 K5 Silverado 350 engine? You might find a Turbo Exhaust supplier on line who has a recording of the exhaust notes and tones. Keep in mind it is the engine and exhaust combination that make the intimidating business sounds. You must match the engine in the Blazer with the advertising sounds of the same Turbo Exhaust System. Pay special attention to the exhaust system and whether it is a single exhaust or dual exhaust for your 350 V-8 engine. The muffler portion should have the TURBO name embossed on the muffler body.
