Yep, I think a mask and gloves would be a good way of protecting your girl, try an N100 respirator and some regular washing up gloves, better spending some money on protective gear than on doctors fees.

I used to break locks open by swinging down on them with a hammer. but that can lead to damage of the locker you are trying to get open. bolt cutters are about $20 to buy, or maybe your local hardware store can rent them to you. the good thing about renting them is that you can use a larger pair and it will be easier to cut the locks off.
