Ok.......i know that alot of plastic worms and lizards and soft baits like that come with salt already in them. But my question is can u soak the baits in something to make fish more attracted to them? Like soaking them in vanilla extract and salt? Or any other things like that? Kinda like marinating the plastic? lol.......just a question. It might be stupid but i was jus wonderin............
YES i like to marinate my baits in garlic and salt, or some WD-40 it works reel nice! ```good catchin```
This is going to sound extremely odd, but WD-40 is a great attractive agent for fish.
Once it hits the water, with the reel in freespool, let it sink. Once it hits bottom, let the worm sit for a few seconds just in case a bass followed it down. Bounce the worm in very, very, v-e-r-y slow by using subtle movements of the rod tip. You can also reel it in slowly, dragging it along the bottom. Colors for soft plastics depends on water clarity... lighter colors for clear water, darker colors for muddy or stained water. Black is the obvious color for night fishing. When you get bit, wait until you feel the weight of the fish before you set the hook.
While wd-40 may be a great fish attractant, it is illegal to use this way in some states. You can squirt bass attractant into your bag of worms jar of pork trailers then reseal the package to use later. The pork trailers really take on the scent and fish gobble these up. The worms grubs are easy enough to squirt on before you cast out and helps to prevent the scent from getting on your hands and everything you touch. Either way you choose you're gonna put more fish on the end of your line with an attractant. Tight lines.
There are no stupid questions, only stupid people! (lol!) Seriously, letting plastics marinate is certainly nothing new or strange. I have a garlic butter concoction that I still use sometimes. I've even let plastics stay in a ziploc bag of coffee granules. Salt is great ,but salt alone on the surface of the plastic washes off after casting. Find something you feel good about, that can make a difference in how effectively you fish. It can be a bit of a mind thing.
