Hi, I might be installing a floating floor that uses plastic connectors to join each plank. They lock together great, however I can still feel the separation between each plank. Can I add clear lacquer to the floor after it is completely installed to give it a uniform feel?
Not on laminate. I would ask the hardware store what to use on hardwood... probably polyurethane.
You shouldn't. The factory finish is done under quality controlled eviroment. Any finish you put on will not last as long. If it is installed right, the joints are barely noticable.
I would not recommend doing so as it would automatically void the given warranty of your floors. I am assuming these are laminate floors? Some factors you may also want to consider is that it could be the floors are designed to be beveled. You might also want to check your subfloor for any unevenness.
Lacquer is not a durable finish and shouldn't be used on floors.Poly Urethane is the recommended finish. Having said that, a large number of these types of floors come pre-finished and may even have a PVC embossed coating on them to simulate grain. I would check with the manufacturer to see what they recommend. Some manufacturers will void the warranty if you put another finish over theirs.
