They don't have to wear unless somebody dies and the NHL makes a rule that they HAVE to wear it. LOL Some players do have trouble seeing. Such as Kyle McLaren, he wears the yellow visor to help him see better. Visors do fog up sometimes, that can really affect a player. I don't think it is a MAN UP thing, because Doug Murray wears a visor, and he is a beast! It is the player's preference to wear one or not. Some players like Datsyuk have a sheild which covers almost his whole face, that is for protection. In some cases it is a Man up thing though. It can be used for intimidation.
it makes sense for them to wear them and stuff but it probably does impair their vision at times. when every you see a guy who wears a visor on the bench they always have their helmets off wiping the visor. i think more forwards wear the visor than defense men i don't know why though. many fighters don't wear visors either probably cause when they fight they want it to be even- they don't want the other guy to have a visor on because they can't punch them, fighters probably don't wear them cause they want the fight to be even, maybe.
It's macho BS. It hasn't been all that long since goalies started wearing masks. Can you imagine now a days not wearing a mask in goal? And how about the players not wearing helmets.? They resisted that too. As more and more players get seriously injured and possibly lose their eyesight, it will become more common. (at least for the smart ones). And as it becomes mroe popular, the product will improve.
