Answer:

Locks on a canal are the mechanism that allows ships and boats to move up and down from one level to another. The locks are the narrowest and shallowest parts of a canal, and thus limit the size of the largest ship or boat that can pass through the canal. Also, the length of a lock determines the length of the longest vessel that can pass through. The lock dimensions are the water depth, the length, and the width of the shallowest or smallest lock on the canal. For lots more information, including pictures and diagrams, run an internet search on canal locks.
I have 2 Rotties, and I got one 5 years after the other Before I brought the new one home, I introduced them on neutral ground as I didn't want the older dog to feel that all of a sudden he had to protect his territory. I allowed them both to introduce themselves to each other by the usual way they do. I took them on a walk together (leashed) and there was never any real problem. Once I got them both home, I allowed them to play in the back yard while I was present, and they sort of just accepted each other. I did provide separate food bowls (Now they share the same one), and water bowls as I didn't want any conflicts that way. Now where you see one, you see the other, they cannot be separated. But a lot will depend on the dogs themselves and their temperament. I may just be lucky
