Question:

front axle shaft removal?

I have everything apart but I can‘t seem to pry out the shaft from the transmission housing. The car is a 1997 Mitsubishi Diamante

Answer:

usually need a long pry bar, carefully pry on the inner side of the axle flange and just kinda pop it out be careful though do not damage the trans-case.sometimes they can be a pain there's a c clip that holds it in sometimes turning the axle a little then prying helps don't forget to use a drip pan for the fluid that will come out. yes James is correct not that I said to pull on the shaft. But Do Not pull on the axle shaft to jerk it out of there damage can happen.
You should just be able to yank it out. Take a pry bar to it. Ive used it on axle shafts before. Its helps. If you still have problems go get yourself a Chilton or Haynes Manuel. They will tell you every step to removing the axle. There mabye soemhting you missed.
rotate the axle, there should be a few small notches around the base of the axle next to the trans. Those notches are there for a reason, use a long screwdriver or a prybar and a hammer to tap the axle out. regaurdless of what others on here tell you dont ever just pull it out from the end you could seperate the cv joint and that another expense you dont want to pay.
