Question:

good winter tires?

Unfortunatly i dont have another car and i have to drive my cobalt ss supercharged in the winter. The stock tire size is 215/45/18. What sizes can i do for winter tires? Thank you

Answer:

it depends on how the stairs are made they could very well be giving the stringers support
Yes,depends on how bigger opening you need.double up the stringer running down from the under side with 2 6x2 over a span of 2.3 meters, on each end 2 4x2 gang nail plate fitted flush with timber to allow for gib. block off stairs so no foot traffic can pass for safety. nail to stringers and the 26x2 p center if necessary .
the stairs are usually made with 2 x 12 stringers ,,you did not say weather or not they are open stairs or have a wall that extends from treads to the stair case ceiling,,,normally the ,studs do not sit under them,, but on the out side,,and extend to the stair case ceiling,,the 2 x 12 stringer is attached to the side of the studs, ,depending on the length of the stairs,,the wall is supporting the stringer ,, if it s less than 12 feet,,it would probably be OK to remove themif they are longer i would leave at least 2 studs -doubled,, or install 2-4 x 4 post,,, divided up by 1 3 the distance of the stair stringer
It is my suggestion that you have a carpenter come in and look at what you have. We could all sit here and guess what is there and what will happen, but until someone that knows takes a look and verifies what is there and determines what will happen you should not remove anything. You could be very sorry, and your landlord very unhappy. It could and probably would be very expensive to repair the damage caused by the removal and the damage may not even show up right away but wait until some point down the road. Find another place to put your desk for now.
