I am thinking of adding an outlet on the ceiling near my bedroom door and there is a smoke detector that i know i can get power from. Any advice comments etc.
You do not need a truck. You may want to get all-weather tires or snow tires with studs. Practice driving in snow and ice in an empty parking lot to get use to the difference. We are more casual up here, not many wear ties and coats. The first winter you will be colder because your blood is thinner but that will change as you become aclimated. It will be the best experience! Anchorage is just like any big city. Get out of Anchorage whenever you can and get to know the real Alaska! Fresh fruits and veggies are little scarce and pricey in winter. You will notice that the number of churches just about equals the number of bars here.

Get rid of the mustang asap. You're going no where with it in Alaska get a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Get rid of the Texas is the biggest and best attitude. Alaska is bigger and they do not like to hear boasting Texans. If you have prejudices against any ethnic groups, get rid of them. Learn some cold weather outdoor sports so you do not go cabin crazy. Learn to dress for the cold. Anchorage is a big city (for Alaska you don't say what city you are in there in Texas and has many neighborhoods. You'll find one you like easily. Things are expensive there. Be prepared to pay. Fishing is wonderful. Be prepared for the long winter darkness and the long summer daylight. It works out don't let it get you down. Good luck.
