we are moving out of our apartment and need to have the carpet cleaned. Has anyone rented a rug doctor? Was it easy to use? work well? Or should I just hire a carpet cleaning company to do it?It was like a $70 difference in price. Trying to save money where we can. Thanks!
It's easy to use. Just add water and carpet shampoo and go to work. You have to dump dirty water periodically and refill with clean water. Cleaning carpets will tire you out. It's good exercise! It does a real nice job. You have to go kinda slow. You can't go fast like with a vacuum cleaner. You have to go real slow.
I have used the Rug Doctor and it is awesome. Well.. my boyfriend actually did the cleaning, but the results looked great! we have also paid someone to do the carpets, and those results were better.. It was after a party and there was a lot of beer stains.. I think if the carpet isnt in way too bad of a shape then just rent one... but otherwise pay someone..
I use the Rug Doctor all the time. I have two dogs so keeping up with them requires really good professional cleaning equipment. I rent mine from the local IGA grocery store and only pay $15-$20 a day for it. It works so beautifully that as soon as I can come up with an extra $700.00 in pocket I intend to buy one. I love the Rug Doctor machine and it hold up very well to my 75lb german shepherd and sheltie. You will be amazed at how much dirt and grime it pulls out of the carpet. Every bit worth the $15-20 a day rental fee. You will not be sorry! I love it so much, I have used it on a multitude of other properties as well.
Really depends whether your time/effort or your money is more valuable to you. If you have the time and don't mind the work, the Rug Doctor will work fine for your needs. They're easy to use and the do an OK job of spiffing up the carpet. Visually, anyway. A service will have more powerful equipment and will get the carpet cleaner ... no effort on your part ... but is definitely more expensive. Since you're leaving the apartment, do you really care if the carpet is deep-clean? I know I wouldn't! The next tenant will probably clean the carpet before he/she moves in, anyway.
Rug Doctor works great if you have a good strong person to get it from the place you rent it to your home and back again. Any more I prefer hiring a cleaning company that extracts the dirty water. Your carpet is almost dry when they get done and the carpet stays cleaner longer.
