I just made team at my local ice rink. For our first competition some of our footwork includes: 4 backwards crossovers, then two brackets in a circle. I just cannot find a way to do the brackets. the next practice is in a week and everyone is counting on me to know the choreography.PLEASE HELP ME!
The idea of a bracket is to go from an inside edge to an outside edge, or vice versa. to practice this, draw a line in the ice or at home that is slightly curved. Then, do a bracket on the line. Even after you turn, you should still be on the line. hanna
If you are doing quick brackets (we call them flip-flops at my rink) then you want to keep your shoulders square to the circle and quickly flip you foot underneath your self. be sure to keep your knees bent!! If they are edgey brackets then (again) bend your knees, set your blade on the correct edge and then when you reach the top of your lobe quickly flip your foot to the new edge. The best thing you could probably do though is ask one of your new teammates to help you out. they can tell you more specifically what you can change to make it easier and I'm sure they will be happy to help. The coach and your teammates will understand if you don't have the footwork perfect right away -- just make sure you are working hard to get it. Plus most synchro competitions don't happen till November, so you have a while to get your skills competition ready! Good Luck!!
you need to bend your knees and go up and downbend before the turn, then release during the turn, then bend back down after completing the bracket. even if you feel funny doing this, this really helps a lotpress your hands down, don't keep your arms completely straight out, press down. also, don't be afraid of doing them with speed and quickness. use your hips to turn, not your upper body. hope i helped
