You really need to set this up during the dayIt's probably just really far out of focus and you'll need to spend a few minutes turning the focus knob (and if that doesn't work, turn it the other way) while focusing on a far-off object (not the Sun!), the Moon is good, and up during the day nowThen you'll be ready to try it at nightTry pointing it at something bright first (at night).

i'm guessing your room is too small to focus ontry it in the daytimetry to focus on an object down the street.
