Question:

Honda civic 97 think i broke my cv joint or axle?

So i was making a U-turn and a lot of things happened , Pretty sure my axle broke when i turn i then lost control of the car. I could not go forward or even reverse , it could fall back even in Park so i had to put emergency brakes on . I just hear a grinding noise in Drive or Reverse. Can anyone tell me how much this will cost? Its a 1997 honda civic lx and i was hearing some light noise for the pass few months turning the wheel but i thought at the time it was just the metal and the cold tempature but i am 90% its the CV axle or joint any idea‘s how much it will cost? Is there a cheap way to get it to the repair shop i spent 140 just to tow it back home.

Answer:

It does sound like you broke your axle. Because you put it in park and the car doesn't hold. I have never seen or heard of that happening. An axle is about a hundred bucks. May another hundred or more to install. If no other damage occurred during the breakage. When you here that clunking when u turn it is the cv joint warning you to fix it. Sorry about the tow. That is a tough lesson L.
