Question:

how bad is it if I were to add a stop leak additive to my cooling system? I have a small crack in the plastic.?

Does it degrade the cooling capabilities? Long run cons? Does it affect pump, thermostat etc. Is there a certain brand that work the best? Give me any information I may need to know. Thank you.

Answer:

You really need to have the plastic end piece replace . A radiator repair shop can replace the end piece ,so you don't have to buy a new radiator. You didn't hurt anything by putting the stop leak in,don't put more thin one can are you could clog the head ports up, i don't thank you can stop a leak in the plastic piece.
Best is Aluma-seal But Sadly there is nothing I know that will seal a Broken Plastic Radiator End Cap, only solution, Replace the Radiator.
I knew some old race car drivers who loved bars leak, as long as your cooling system is not plugged up to begin with, the stop leak additive will not hurt it, in some cases a good additive Iike bars leak has a water pump lubricant in it (good antifreeze should have this too) if the crack is small and bars leak or alumaseal stops it great, Just keep an eye on the radiator looking for green puddles under the car. FOR THOSE OF YOU WITH PETS KEEP YOUR ANIMALS AWAY FROM THE GREEN ANTIFREEZE IT IS POISONOUS, IT SMELLS SWEET TO THEM, DON'T LET THEM LICK THE PUDDLE THERE ARE ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY ANTI FREEZES AVAILABLE and while there are people who say they can weld plastic, it is usually temporary at best. and a crack is a crack. what actually happens is that each time a radiator gets hot, then cools off it expands and contracts, and over time cracks get bigger, I am not a fan of plastic radiators. I replaced my last radiator problem with an aluminum one. there are a bunch of online radiator shops claiming to be wholesalers, but your local mechanic can do about the same, good luck
