how can I put a doggy door in a metal outside door to my home?

Answer:

it can be done, but would be slightly tricky because typically metal exterior doors are not solid core(they would be UNBELIEVABLY heavy if they were) so you will need to cut the hole for the door, then support the structure before installing the doggy door. you can use a reciprocating saw(aka sawzall) to cut the hole, but you will need to drill a hole to get started. you can then support the inside structure by welding braces inside the door, or just support it with a wood frame(be sure to seal it well to avoid water/rotting issues. good luck
sure you can,, you will use a light weight plastic or aluminum for the door as it will be easy for the pooch to open in and out !!
Yes it can be done. The only thing I bring up is I hope it isn't the door into the house from the garage......doesn't sound like it.....That is a fire door and should not be compromised with a doggie opening. Also having a flap like that might let carbon monoxide from the garage into the house. OK, the doggie door kits take care of the issue of hollow doors, it's part of the frame of the door. If you want to reinforce inside the metal door, probably a good idea.
Take the template that came with your doggy door measure up from the bottom of the door about 5or6 inch.and center it, then draw the out line of the template, you can cut it with a circle saw with a fine tooth plywood blade just put in on the saw backwards it will cut through just fine, just make sure you protect your eyes and ears. And there is one more thing drill a small hole on all the corners so you can flip the door over and mark that side with the template that way the hole will line up.
