I've recently taken up pipe-fitting and am addicted! I love the satisfaction derived from installing long, thick sections of heavy duty piping into new and exciting places. One of my favorite things is actually threading a nice length of pipe into a tight fitting area and sealing it with red hot soldering. I also like pipe grinding, brazing, tube bending, and rigging. How can I turn this hobby into a full-time career?
most W.O.G. pipe fittings (water, oil, gas) are galvanized to give them a longer life before rusting. The galvanizing is a coating of zinc (sometimes a little aluminum too). Rust is an electrochemical reaction (oxidization). Zinc oxidizes a lot easier than iron, so the zinc can slowly (rust) away saving the iron (known as a sacrifical coating). A big advantage relative to painting is that the zinc coating will protect the underlying metal even when scratches almost 1/8 wide are put in the zinc. All water pipes are hot dipped (dipped right in hot liquid zinc) but other thinner not as protective galvanized coatings can be done with electroplating.
The Texas laws for parking can be found in the Driver's Handbook published by the Texas Department of Public Safety. See Chapter 7. You are not allowed to park within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection. You are not allowed to park within 15 feet of a fire hydrant. You may not park within 30 feet upon the approach to any flashing signal, stop sign, yield sign, or other traffic control signal located at the side of a roadway. If you have a Texas drivers license, I strongly suggest that you study the Drivers Handbook. These laws help protect our citizens; they are not just arbitrary regulations designed to annoy you. These parking laws are pretty standard throughout the United States. The penalties are always a fine and may involve impounding your vehicle, since violating these parking rules can endanger the life or safety of other citizens. The amount of the fines vary.
I just got the 30 feet of a stop sign too. It feels absolutely ridiculous. That is approximately the length of 2.5 compact cars. This law is violated every minute of everyday throughout Texas, particularly in neighborhoods, since it is not well known. It feels like those ticketed are selected for a reason. The car behind me that was also within those 30 feet did not have ticket
