Hydraulic mechanical advantage. The electric pump operates a great big master cylinder, which lifts the car using a really tiny slave cylinder.
I would worry more about leaks, I hit one of those and broke my tranny, so check underneath for leaks
Go back to your history class. Egyptians lifted 100 ton blocks of rock with out any pumps of any kind.
