You are right, I haven't heard that for many years. I suppose it is like the others have said, most don't smoke a pipe.
I have and it went over everyone's head. Nobody has a sense of humor anymore thanks to lack of interaction with each other and total reliance on those damned hand held gadgets. On the news after the deadly tornado in Oklahoma the lady who was sorting through the rubble used the term, that's life in the big city. Nobody got the little bit of light humor she offered amongst the devastation. I did.
Ha Ha....I don't see many men smoking pipes any more. My Dad use to smoke a pipe when I was growing up and I remember telling him that one night when I was mad at him. Think I spent the next few nights in my room grounded.
Its because there are every few people who smoke a pipe anymore. When that phrase was popular, most men smoked a pipe. Both my Grandfather and Dad did, but I never have, now my age group is the seniors.
yeah, you said stick and they were thinking of garden sticks. I'm a senior but after I graduated high school I remember being ticked off enough to say aw go suck an egg...but I do remember your phrase being said in high school, and I also remember the cherry tobacco in that pipe. Today they use other explitives.
