Question:

how do home boilers heat your home?

would like to add an assitional zone to my basement

Answer:

It's called hot water heat. The water circulates through pipes to radiators which radiate the heat into the room. adding pipes and radiators is done with copper pipe. Probably should be done by a pro.
Glen, We need a little more info, to be able to help you with this one. Boilers use circulating water or low pressure steam (1 and 2 pipe systems) 1 pipe steam has 1 pipe leading into the radiator and a vent on the other end of the radiator, as the vent is opened more, the faster the steam flows through the radiator. 2 pipe steam systems have a pipe leading into the radiator and a cup shaped item with a lid at the other end ( this holds an item inside called a steam trap) On all the aforementioned boilers if you are thinking of adding a zone, I highly reccomend that you contact a couple of heating professionals and get bids. The present size of your boiler and heating capacity seriously come into play in figuring on the economics and performance of adding a zone and heating it correctly. Good luck.
Boilers are designed to turn water into steam. The steam is then routed through insulated pipes to the radiators in the rooms of the house. Radiators are just the opposite of insulated, they are designed to radiate the heat out into the room as quickly as possible to heat it. The steam turns back into water as it gives up it's energy and returns to the boiler via the return line. If you are going to add another radiator to your system you need to ask a few questions. 1. Will your boiler handle the increased load? If it wont, then your whole house will suffer. 2. You must have a supply (Steam) line run to the new space as well as a return (water) line. Good Luck Pal 8-) Ummm not sure what Morris is talking about........ A Hot water system Has a Hot water Tank. A System with a Boiler boils the water into steam.
