Question:

how do i fix the rear axle on my bike? and how much are they to buy?

i some how broke my rear axle on my bike(maybe from mountain biking). i noticed that it was rubbing on the frame and i thought that quick release was loose but it was as tight as it could be then when i got home i took my tire off and the axle was in two pieces. so i went online and i cant find anywhere to buy a new axle, so should i just buy a new back tire frame?

Answer:

The best idea is to buy a new wheel with an axle. If the axle is broken then you will need a wheel build. They start at about $50 plus parts. Most of your spokes are still good and the rim needs to be trued but should be good in theory. You can find a cheap rear axle for next to nothing. The package should cost about $120 about twice the cost of a new wheel.
If all that's broken is the axle and there isn't any collateral damage, just replace the axle. Bring the wheel into the local bike shop so they can help you. It shouldn't be more than $20 total, $15 for parts and $5 for service. And then a couple bucks for a tip if you want.
