White vinegar neutralizes the odors of cigarettes. You do not need to use it as a liquid cleaner, either. We put about 1 of white vinegar into a bowl and place the bowl in the room(s) that smell bad from smoke. Leave the bowl there until the smell is gone. We do it after mother-in-law leaves – she's a chain smoker. Works great! I would try making a large plastic 'tent' over the sofa. Remove the cushions to allow more surface area and then put bowls of vinegar under the tent. I see no reason why this would not work.
