I got a new tv. All this stuff was hooked-up to old tv and worked fine. when I got the new tv and hooked everything up, the dvd/vcr player will no longer play on the tv and the cable in my bedroom no longer works, however it does work in 2 other rooms in the house besides the main tv. Does anyone know of a service that will come and check this all out, and hook it up right so everything works? Thanks for all your help.
Try GeekSquad from Best Buy or your local provider (Cox, Adelphia, or whoever you use), both can help you outYou can probably fix the dvd/vcr yourself though, just check if all cables are connected properly, yellow to yellow, red to red. Make sure video source is correct, power plugged in, etc.
Call your local cable TV provider, or an electronics store that does custom installations.
I am assuming you got a flat screen LCD type TV. The cable from the wall should be split first, get a splitter and two lengths of cable type coax about 6 feet each. Run one to your dvd/vcr player, run one to the cable box. Run a 3 wire hookup (RCA type cables red, white, yellow) from the DVD/VCR line out to one of your tv's line in jack sets. You won't get all of your cable channels, but you get most of them. You can watch your dvds and tapes on the tv on one of the line in settings. Now go back to your cable box, take that piece of coax and run it to your Tivo box. Then run a piece of coax from the tivo box to the coax in on your tv. Your cable box channels will be on your tivo. To control the cable box with your tivo, you'll need to run the funny looking computer type cable that comes with your tivo, to the cable box from the tivo. Then in the settings section of the tivo menu you'll have to tell the tivo box what kind of cable box you have. That's it, complicated but it works.
