i have to make it at school so i can't make anything else (wooden box etc)i need to heat 4 litres (a gallon) of cold water in the space of roughly an hour and a half using just solar energycould i please get an easy step by step guide for this?how will i make the water circulate through the tube etc? (this was just an idea given by my teacher, the solution doesnt have to incorporate this)
Excellent idea and glad you are heating your water in the car with solar energy.. eliminates your engine from having to heat the coolant in the radiator, less energy, save the fuel, and feel a lot better about yourself in the process... GO AHEAD... mount the sticker where it will attract the most attention.
Take a clear plastic container(can be one of those large ones). Fill it with water. Take black tube. Place it in tub of water so that one end is on the top and the other on the bottom. (i think if possible you should have rest of tube outside tub) Take the end of the tube that is on top and suck the water that is into) Place tube back in water (this should cause the water to begin to circulate through tube) Over time the water passing through tube will heat up due to sunlight and then the cycle repeats. Sticky tape may be required
How hot do you have to heat it? A coiled black plastic tube filled with water will circulate the water on it's own. The heated water will expand and rise in the coils, and the cooler water will fall in the coils, once the action starts, it will flow on it's own. It will take a lot of coiled tube to heat the water to a noticeable degree and make it circulate on it's own. Try getting enough black tube to hold 4 liters of water, coil it and fill it with water, and connect the ends together. Take it apart at the end of 1 and half hours, and you will find the water temperature has gone up. Or you can place both ends in a plastic milk jug if you are allowed to use one, and the water will circulate out of the jug, be heated by the black tube and sun, and then circulate back into the jug. You will have to place one end of the tube at the bottom of the jug and the other end at the top of the jug and the coiled pipe would need to be laying flat at the save level as the top fo the jug for it to circulate
