Basically there are three main pieces to you door locks, The tumbler..(where you put your key), the latch (that holds th door closed and opens it with handle), and the door lock actuator if you have power locks. I have seen theses latches go bad alot on your vehicle and have also seen the actuator cause lock/unlock problems as well.
Lightning rods act as short circuits between the oppositely charged ground and the cloud allowing the heavy currents to pass through them thereby preventing the damage to buildings.
