Question:

How do I make my car alarm stop going off?

This is going to sound like a really dumb question, but I have a 99 honda accord and sometimes when I‘m putting the key in the ignition the alarm goes off. I don‘t know if I‘m accidentally hitting the panic button or what, but this has happened several times and I have no clue why. And I have no idea what button to press to make it stop because every time it has happened I just press them all until one works and I can‘t remember which one it is that works. Help?

Answer:

Just press the unlock not all of them
Your vehicle likely passives arms itself when you get in the car. If you don't turn on the ignition within about 30 seconds, the alarm will activate on its own. At that point you will trigger it if you turn the key. In the future, get in the car, and turn on the key in the ignition on and then off. Then you can put on your makeup and do whatever you have to do, and then you'd be able to turn the key on a start the car with no issues.
Usually just pressing the unlock button once should stop it. But that's assuming it's just a standard factory alarm, and that you're using the factory remote fob. Many aftermarket alarms will have a valet button which should be installed somewhere on or under the dash along with an led indicator light. If you can find a strange little button like that, usually just pushing it once (if not try holding for a second) while the key is on will disable it. These can often be set to go off if there is an attempt to start with out first disabling the alarm. Also, I've often seen with factory alarms, that if the door lock sensor is failing, that it won't think you've unlocked the door first. Try unlocking the door manually with the key, and also try that on the passenger door. Often unlocking the passenger door with the key will still disable the alarm, when the driver door lock sensor isn't working.
