I need to change/ repack the wheel bearings but i've never done it before but I am mechanically inclined enough to do it. Just need to know if theres any secret steps to follow. Any info would be great!!!
not hard, just get some grease in your palm and push the bearing into it. you just want to make sure the grease goes through the cage.
on a cutlass is the same as my 88 olds., you dont grease them, they are grease packed from the factory, if you think they are dry, you have to replace the bearing.
packing bearing easy... you get a palm full and take the bearing big side down and push it in your hand little at a time a round the outer edge gap...til it pushes the grease out the other side..... kind of keep doing it til you see new grease and your done.... when you tap in the rear seal on the hub put a small amount in the hub between the bearing but you dont have to but it dont hurt too... when you tighten the outer nut is tight and then back off to fit pin thru hole your done.. fast way to get seal off is after you remove outer bearing put nut back on and give it a good tug most of the time the seal will pop right out
The 1993 Cutlass Ciera does NOT have wheel bearings you can repack. They are what is known as Sealed Bearings. If they need grease, you MUST replace them. There is NO way around it. The Hub and Bearing come as an assembly! The job to swap out the Bearing/hub assembly is actually pretty easy. should take around an hour to do. You must remove the wheel, then the Brake Caliper, then the Rotor. then remove the big axle nut. Then remove the three bolts (torx bolts) that hold the hub to the steering knuckle. remove splash shield and remove the Hub/bearing assembly. You may need a special puller to get the hub out from the steering knuckle.
