Question:

How do I safely remove melted foil from the base of an oven?

I lined the foil on the base of my oven to prevent drips (shiny side up)I preheated the oven to 32 degreesThree minutes later I smell fumesso I look in the oven and the foil is bubbling and meltingI waited for it to cool a little bit, ripped the foil out and there was still the middle piece stuck on the bottom of the oven. There is no grease, its a new ovenso a degreaser wont workAny ideas? Apparently some ovens cant handle the aluminum foil, but I dont get why.Really bothering meMy landlord is going to kill me.

Answer:

This isn't going to be easy but after my wife did this to a brand new oven I'll share what I didYou need to understand that you will never get the bottom pan of the oven to look like this never happenedThe foil has now formed a mechanical bond with the oven - like in weldingSo even doing what I suggest will only remove the foil and it will leave the bottom of the oven with permanent marks1If your oven pan - the bottom part of the oven can be removed do thisIf you have a convection oven you may have to remove the fan covering2If you can't remove the pan then you need to be VERY carefulYou should be sure to have lots of fresh air into the kitchenYou should wear rubber gloves and eye protection3Buy some Easy Off oven cleaner - the kind with a pump not a spray! 4Easy Off is very corrosive to aluminum5Squirt a small amount to a little area at one time - if the pan is out of the oven, do this outside when its warm-in the shade6The EO will start to foam - gently - as it eats the foil away7Use a small metal screw driver to gently rub the area back forthThis will help move the foil surface away from the oven pan8This will take awhile so don't rushIt might take you a couple of hours - and yes you can do it in steps9When you are all done wash the area and let it dry10The foil will be gone but the bottom of your oven will have permanent scars where the foil was11If you want to restore the oven bottom to as new, then you will need to buy a replacement, but that only works IF the bottom pan is removableIf the bottom pan is not removable - better hope the landlord doesn't noticeThis worked really well for me, Good luck with yours.
