Everyone here is right.but also WRONG. I will NEVER again get hard-wired smoke alarms in a house. HUGE pain! If one of these gawd-awful alarms starts chirping it *probably is* the battery..BUT.chances are when you replace it it will still chirp! This drove me nuts for a while, until I finally had to suffer and make a call to the company (First Alert - which I will never purchase again if I can help it) to find out what to do.. Apparently when you replace the battery, the alarm remembers the 'low bat' state it was in and will continue to chirp! When I found this out I (nicely) told the lady that that was a rather ridiculous way to design one of these things. So, what you have to do is replace the battery and then hold the test button down and hold it until the sound dies completely away, and then you will be good. The alarms I had ate 9 V battery constantly. I was replacing these all over the house all the time, and all this is why I will never buy another First Alert piece of crap again..lol. Good luck!
definite, at a mall. It became a style of small ones on the escalator and that i lifted the cap to work out what could ensue. A no longer-so-loud alarm went off and that i at as quickly as dropped it and went back to my relatives. i became 12.

Most fire alarms in elementary and high schools get set off in the schools and also go to the central fire alarm office (911) automatically. going to the local station ended in the early 20th century with watch towers. The central office knows what fire equipment is available to send. If it went to the closest fire station and they were on a run then no equipment would be sent. The auto response to a school alarm is a box. School management have a number to call and a code word to cancel false alarms or give more info on real alarms. In non school setting the alarm just rings locally. many businesses have alarm companies that monitor the alarms and the sprinkler systems. when an alarm goes off the call the company, not answer and they call the fire department. They automatically call the fire department if the sprinklers go off. Many places do not want to pay for a service or it are not required by local law, so the alarm just goes off in the building.
