Question:

How do they find out what frequency quartz vibrates at?

The reason the quartz watch is more accurate then a mechanical watch is that a quartz crystal vibrates at a frequency of 32768...How do they find that out? Do all quartz crystals vibrate at the same frequency's even if they are shaped different? Do gems like Ruby's Emeralds and Diamonds have their own frequency's too?

Answer:

Gold does. Quartz has a specific gravity of 2.65. Gold's specific gravity is 19.3
Do you mean specific gravity? If so, the answer is, definitely not. Lots of minerals are much denser than quartz.
