Question:

how do you fix the alignment on a front tire of a motorcycle?

Specifically A 87 honda nighthawk 550.took a minor spill bounced it off to the left.thanks for the help

Answer:

what Andy said may work. correct answer put bike on center stand place a straight edge along side the rear wheel check the frame is parallel to the straight edge check the front wheel to be parallel to the straight edge IF NOT slacken bolts on triple trees.align the wheel tighten all the bolts this ensures the front rear wheel are in line with the frame now sit on the bike check the handle bars are straight. should then be OK
First, if you hit anything with the front wheel good chance your front forks and/or front wheel may be bent and need fixing or all else is a mute point. Fully loosen all of the bolts/nuts at the triple-clamp (front-steering head) with the wheel suspended off the ground. Adjust and measure/equalize wheel to front fork-tubes side to side. Adjust/equalize height of each fork tube in the triple-clamp and tighten to snug. Eyeball (or straightedge) front wheel to rear wheel and torque all nuts/bolts to proper specs.
There is no alignment on the front of a bike. If the tire is not in line with the handlebars (or more technically, the triple trees), then the forks are bent. It can be pretty easy to bend fork legs with even very minor impacts if the force is applied in the right way. While the correct fix is to replace the fork legs (usually just the main leg, not the larger sliders), that can get pricey unless you do it yourself. If it's really minor and the forks still work smoothly I might be tempted to rotate them in the triple trees to try to straighten it out. I can't offically recommend that though.
