I have burns in my landlords carpet from cigarettes. How can I remove the burns short of replacing the carpet?
not unless you replace the carpet a burn changes the chemical properties of the material there is no way to get it out or even make it less noticeable No way that first idea will work especially with multiple burns it would look terrible
You can't actually get rid of the burns. The carpet where it is burned no longer exists, it's not like taking out a stain. What you could try is to find a remote spot of matching carpet, a closet or something, a place where it won't be noticed if you take a little sample of carpet. Cut out the area around the burn, an inch by inch section or so, and also cut a piece from the closet that is the exact same size. Replace the burnt piece with the closet piece. Some strong glue should hold it in place. If that doesn't work, I'm out of ideas. That has worked for me though. Good luck.
Clip them out with toe nail clippers. Then you massage the rug around it so it's less noticeable. Try it behind the curtains first, see how you do. If you're looking at replacing the carpet anyway, why not take a shot? I did this on a rug I had once since the former owner left burn marks. The clippers got the burn right out and it was only noticeable if you got right down on the floor and looked at it hard.
If the burn doesn't go all the way to the backing of the carpet you can trim the burnt yarns off with scissors. If they do or if it is a Berber carpet you can have an installer cut the area(s) out and seam a patch in, provided there is some leftover pieces stored somewhere. Installers usually have a minimum repair fee for small jobs starting around $50.
Snip away the dead carpet using fine manicure scissors and tweezers. You want to remove only the dead (bunt) carpet and nothing more. Surly not inch by inch more like millimeter by millimeter! After removing all the dead carpet. Find an unnoticeable area in the carpet such as the back of a closet and remove bits of good carpet using the same method. Try taking samples from multiple areas. Roll the new samples up to fit the hole, apply carpet glue to the base of the hole. Careful not to get any glue on undamaged fibers. Place the samples onto the glue cover with a piece of paper and a heavy book. Allow to dry for several hours. Remove the book and paper and blend the carpet with a wide tined comb. Also if there are singed but not burnt area try using a solution of 2 parts hydrogen peroxide 10 parts water. Dabbed the solution on the fibers spray with water and dab dry with a paper towel. Wait until the area is thoroughly dry before proceeding with gluing in new carpet samples.
