Question:

How do you read size designation of Motorcycle Tires?

When you buy a tire, does every single number of the size have to be matched? For example, when the owner‘s manual states the size of 120/90-17, can you use 120/90-18? My parts catalogue doesn‘t have the size I need.(Which motorcycle parts shop sell tires for low price?)Thank you.

Answer:

The first number is tread width in millimeters. The second number is sidewall height in percentage of tread width. The third number is rim size (diameter in inches). No, as a general rule you can't put a different size tire on. You definitely can't put a tire made for an 18 inch rim on a 17 inch rim.
