Question:

Vinyl Flooring?

How do you remove excess vinyl flooring glue from the walking surface of a newly installed floor?

Answer:

Try using WD-40. Spray directly on the area, let sit a few minutes, and wipe with a towel. May have to use some muscle on it. I have yet to find a glue that it won't remove.
use 100% mineral spirits and a clean white rag, do not use anything to scrape at it because that will mess with the urethane layer of the vinyl, also on vinyl do not use any cleaners with yellow # 5 or over time it will leave a yellow haze on the floor. RUgs with a non slip back will discolor the floor.
You could try scraping it off with a scotch brite pad and some water. You could try a razor blade but try it without cutting the floor. Otherwise, you could try a solvent or mastic / glue removal. If it's fresh vinyl, you could easily mark up the vinyl. Make sure it's completely dry before removing the excess so you don't ruin it. You could get the glue remover at Home Depot, Lowes or Ace Hardware store. You could also try the link below. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
Paint thinner or mineral spirit. Once the glue is removed wash the area's with a mild detergent and rinse with clean water. Use a white cloth when wiping away the adhesive. Colored terry towels could bleed the dye using mineral spirit and/or paint thinner and could possibly ruin the floor.
