Question:

How does a crane get on top of a building and how does it go back down?

We see lots of cranes doing some heavy lifting during construction. But how do they get so high up these buildings? And when construction is nearly done, how do they go back down?

Answer:

Those type of cranes have a support system that is continuously built as the building gets taller. The crane climbs up on the support system to reach the next level and climbs down to get down
Depends on the building of course. Either a taller crane is brought in to lift them, or they're lifted by helicopter. And sometimes a building effectively builds itself, and the crane moves up with the construction platform after being constructed at ground level. Will still need a helicopter to remove it of course.
