Iron is an element in the Earth. IT is mined and processed to get all the impurities out and then it is heated and cast. THe problem is that it is heavy and prone to rusting. So you have the process backwards. Large passenger jets are made from aluminum because it is light weight. However the new ones like the 787 dream-liner is composite material.
