Question:

How long should warm food be left out for?

I was eating a chicken parm sandwich and had to leave, so I left it in aluminum foil and the bag around 5 P.M.It was still hot,so I left it in the microwave.I didn't get home til 11 at night, and I immediately put it in the fridgeis it still ok to eat,or should I throw it out?

Answer:

Aluminum does corrode, but not really like 'rust' on ironThe correct term is oxidationAluminum oxide is kind of white in colorIt is actually used on aluminum products to help protect the aluminum underneath as the oxide forms an almost protective barrier.
the outer skin of al is rust [oxidized] which is solid does not flake like iron
Alumium doesn't rust.
WowAll these answers, and not one of them is correct Food can be left at room temperature for NO LONGER than 2 hoursAfter that, bacteria will start to growPeriodThere is no different amount of time for children or the elderly2 hours, MAXEDIT: If food is left out too long, heating it will absolutely NOT kill the bacteria.
