I have a leak and need to know help please.
There are a total of SIX bearings in your rear axle assembly. If you have a leak from your axle seal, you only need to remove the brake rotors and axle shafts for access to replace the seals.
edit your question with where exactly the leak is coming from (the differential housing cover, axle shafts, or the pinion u joint).
your axle seals are gone they are cheap but you must drain the diff to pull the Axel's and replace the seals about a 300-400 dollar job the BRAKES will be ruined as well as the emergency BRAKES if they are the shoe style in the rotor
there are two pinion bearings and two carrier bearings... but you will probably need to replace more than just bearings if you have a leak (like clutches if it is limited slip, and maybe even ring and pinion, especially if you don't want a high pitched whining noise around 45mph). Also, the wheel bearings use the same lube in the axle tubes... watch those, they like to go bad and wear down a ring on the axles. And Don't forget seals.. pinion seal, axle seals. Also the pinion has a metal crush ring that must be replaced if the pinion is removed.
it sounds like your axle seals are leaking. usually the bearings are ok.you should inspect axles for pitting where bearings ride, if ok bearings are. as for an actual answer there are 2 each of axle, diff carrier, pinion bearings, for atotal of 6.
